The Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) is an academic medical knowledge centre with over 7,000 staff members. The LUMC focuses on top clinical and highly specialised care and patient care with research. Research is divided into departmental programmes, theme groups, technology platforms and multidisciplinary research centres. These diverse approaches aim to stimulate the dynamics of the research and to respond to promising national and international developments. The section Electron Microscopy (EM) is part of the department Molecular Cell Biology, and is active within the Biomedical Profile area of the LUMC. The EM section has the role to support research activities and is as such involved in a large number of collaborations. The section also performs project-funded research, mostly related to electron microscopy developments and (pre-) applications. In addition, the section acts as an interface between the LUMC and the Netherlands Center for Electron Nanoscopy (NeCEN), located in close vicinity.
